Avapro generic
Avapro is a prescription drug that is used to treat high blood or hypertension problems and kidney problems that are caused by Type 2 Diabetes or diabetes nephropathy. Since Avapro belongs to the class of drugs known as Angiotensin II receptor blockers, it reduces the effectiveness of a chemical known as angiotensin II, which causes blood vessels to become narrow, thus reducing blood pressure effectively. Avapro generic is not advisable to buy unless the approved version is allowed to be marketed and sold.
Avapro is manufactured and sold through two pharmaceutical companies in partnership: Bristol-Myers Squibb Company and Sanofi-Aventis. The medication has a patent on it that prevents the manufacturing of Avapro generic. Still when you search for the generic version of the medicine, you will find many companies selling it. However, in most likelihood, these generic versions are substandard and spurious.
Incidentally, the first patent of Avapro will expire on March 2012. The patent was supposed to expire in September 2011 but the manufacturer was given an extension. So March 2012 is predicted to be the time when the Avapro generic actually becomes available. Once the patent of the drug gets over, many companies will manufacture what will be known as a generic Avapro drug.
There are speculations about Irbesartan being the generic version of Avapro. The truth is that Irbesartan is an active ingredient of the drug but is not a generic version of the blood pressure medication. The active ingredient of the drug is referred to as the ‘generic name’. There is a difference between the terms-generic name and generic version. As mentioned for the generic version of Avapro to take form, we will have to wait till March 12 before another company, besides the original manufacturer entrusts itself the job of manufacturing the product.
